Holmes Hydration Is Bringing Herbal Wellness Back to the Neighborhood
For many Black families, wellness didn’t begin with expensive supplements or luxury health stores. It started in our kitchens, gardens, and conversations in the family. Over time, the knowledge and just the concept of wellness became harder to access and understand.
Wellness began to feel complicated and harder to access.
Holmes Hydration is helping to change that.
Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the Black-owned wellness brand creates small-batch herbal teas, infused honeys, infused agaves, alcohol-free botanical tinctures, and black seed oil with a mission to reconnect people with plant-based wellness in a way that feels familiar, approachable, and rooted in community.
Rather than presenting wellness as a quick solution, Holmes Hydration views it as a lifestyle rhythm, one that includes tea, movement, music, mood, and meaningful moments of reflection. Each product is created with intention around traditional herbal uses that support areas such as digestion, sleep, respiratory wellness, circulation, immune health, and emotional balance.
Walter Holmes is the founder of Holmes Hydration. The brand began with a personal search for answers. While dealing with recurring sinus and respiratory discomfort, Walter began researching plants and their traditional uses. Through learning, experimenting, and creating small batches, he developed a blend that worked for him.

That blend became Strong, one of Holmes Hydration’s most requested teas and the foundation that helped grow the brand.
Walter’s story is unique because he shares his experience as someone who inherited all of this knowledge. Instead, he represents the journey of someone who sought out information, discovered the value of herbal wellness, and committed to making that knowledge more accessible for others.
That mindset became the foundation for Holmes Hydration’s identity as the “Neighbrhd Herb Dealer.”
The phrase reimagines a term that once carried negative associations and transforms it into a symbol of service, trust, and community care. A neighborhood herb dealer is someone people can approach, ask questions, and learn from without feeling intimidated by the wellness industry. For Holmes Hydration, education comes before the sale.
The brand’s community impact extends beyond its products through initiatives like the Pour Forward Program, which creates trusted referral networks through wellness professionals, community leaders, salons, and local ambassadors.
Through Herbs & Wordz, Holmes Hydration brings people together through tea blending experiences combined with other creative Black-owned businesses and sensory experiences. The brand also hosts community wellness walks, including Miles & Meaning, creating spaces where tea, movement, and conversation meet.
Holmes Hydration also gives back through Billie’s Breath, a vocal and throat support blend inspired by Billie Holiday. A portion of every batch supports the Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts.
Today, Holmes Hydration continues to grow throughout Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and surrounding communities through online sales, markets, workshops, and retail partnerships.
Yet the heart of the brand remains the same: making wellness feel less distant and more personal.

Holmes Hydration is not just creating herbal products. It is rebuilding connections between people, plants, and traditions, reminding communities that wellness has always been closer than they thought.
